FRAXEL PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS

Things you will need to be used immediately after post-procedure:

  1. Either Biafine/Vaniply/Aquaphor
  2. White vinegar
  3. Gallon distilled water

PRE-OP INSTRUCTIONS

Patients experience an increased sense of heat during the treatment. We will prescribe topical anesthesia for you to apply to clean skin 1 hour prior to your procedure. For those with a history of rosacea, an oral antibiotic will also be prescribed to begin day of procedure. You will take an antibiotic the day of your procedure to continue for a week. Additionally, if you have a history of cold sores – you will also take an antiviral ( i.e Acyclovir, Valtrex).

POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS

How to Care for Your Skin after Treatment
Immediately after treatment

You will also soak your face with a mix of ½ cup cool water and 1/4 teaspoon white vinegar 3 times for 5 minutes each. Apply Biafine three times to the area on the day of your treatment. The use of ice packs helps alleviate the heat sensation. You may also cleanse your face with a mild cleanser.

First Few Days

Change the amount of soaks and Biafine applications to twice a day for the next two to five days. Once the sloughing starts, allow your skin to heal, and DO NOT scrub, rub or use exfoliates. Keep clothing away from the treated area as much as possible to avoid irritation.

First Week of Healing

After 5 days of using Biafine, switch back to a bland moisturizer. Keep treated area clean. Avoid smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, excessive exercise, perspiring, swimming, or exposing skin to heat and sun.

Skin Care products

All of your skin care products should be non-irritating and non-clogging for the first week after a Fraxel re:store treatment.

Scrubs, Toners, Glycolic Acid and Retin A

Do not use products that will cause irritation. Do not use abrasive scrubs, toners, or products that contain glycolic acids or Retina. Read the product labels.

Normal Skin Care Regimen

Once the sloughing is complete, you may resume your routine skin care and make-up products, as long as they are tolerable to you.

Sunscreen

It is very important that you use sunscreen to prevent sun damage to the skin. Sunscreen should offer UVA and UVB protection and be SPF 30 or more. Once sloughing is complete, use sunscreen daily for at least 3 months after your last treatment. Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside, and again, immediately before. Reapply every 2 hours. If direct sun exposure is necessary, wear a hat and clothing that will cover the treated area. Your practice of diligent sunscreen use may lower the risk of laser-induced hyperpigmentation (darker color).

Moisturizer

The moisturizer you use should be non-irritating and non-clogging to prevent breakouts. Reapply whenever your skin feels dry.

Resume your normal skin care regimen when your skin has fully healed.
